Last updated
This policy explains what personal data Here's New (heresnew.com) collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can do about it. It applies to the website, the installable progressive web app and any exported feeds.
You can read the entire directory without an account and without providing any personal information. Accounts are optional and exist only to enable watchlists, category subscriptions and sponsored listings.
Who is responsible for your data
Here's New is the data controller for personal data collected through this site. For any privacy question, request or complaint, contact us at support@heresnew.com or through the contact form, and we will respond within thirty days.
What we collect
- Account data
- If you register, we store your email address and the display name you provide. Authentication is handled by Supabase Auth and passwords are never stored by us in a readable form.
- Preference data
- Your watchlist, subscribed categories, and theme preference. These are stored against your account, or in your browser's local storage if you are not signed in.
- Submitted content
- Sponsored listings and comments you post, including their text and links. This content is public by design.
- Push subscription data
- If you enable notifications, the browser-issued push endpoint required to deliver them. This is deleted when you revoke permission or delete your account.
- Technical data
- Standard server logs — IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp — retained for security and abuse prevention.
We do not collect payment card details. Payments for sponsored listing subscriptions are processed entirely by Stripe; card data goes to Stripe and never passes through our systems.
Why we process it, and on what legal basis
- To provide the service you asked for — account, watchlist, subscriptions, notifications. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
- To keep the site secure and prevent abuse. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
- To display advertising that funds the site. Legal basis: consent, where consent is required in your jurisdiction.
- To respond to your enquiries and corrections. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
Third parties and advertising
We use a small number of third-party processors, each for a specific purpose.
- Supabase
- Authentication and database hosting for accounts, watchlists, subscriptions and submitted listings.
- Stripe
- Payment processing for sponsored listing subscriptions, including fraud prevention.
- Google AdSense and its partners
- Display advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com, or opt out of third-party vendor cookie use for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before non-essential advertising and measurement cookies are set, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time using the cookie settings link in the site footer. Where you decline, advertising may still be shown but will be non-personalised.
Cookies and local storage
Essential storage keeps you signed in and remembers your theme choice. Advertising and measurement cookies are set by third parties and only where consent has been given or is not required. Full detail is in our Cookie Policy.
Retention
Account and preference data is retained for as long as your account exists. Server logs are retained for a limited period for security purposes and then discarded. Public submitted content remains until you or a moderator removes it. When you delete your account, associated personal data is removed from our systems.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you have some or all of the following rights, and we honour them regardless of jurisdiction where we practically can.
- Access — obtain a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Erasure — have your data deleted. The 'Delete My Account' control in your account sidebar does this immediately and irreversibly.
- Restriction and objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests, including profiling for advertising.
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent — change your advertising cookie choice at any time via the cookie settings link.
- Complain — lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California residents additionally have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise any right, use the in-app controls or contact support@heresnew.com.
Children
This service is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
Our processors may store or process data outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Where required, these transfers rely on standard contractual clauses or an equivalent approved safeguard.
